Over the Hill is a romantic hideaway perched atop a hillock in Poovar; a predominantly fishing village located about 30 kilometres from Trivandrum. Over the Hill has been thoughtfully designed by award-winning architect T M Cyriac. The latter, who also happens to own this homestead, has designed resorts likeCoconut Lagoon in Kumarakom, Spice Villagein Thekkady and Turtle on the Beach in Kovalam in the past. No wonder then that the architecture of Over the Hillhappens to be in perfect harmony with the surroundings.
The 7 rooms at Over the Hill have been done up in rustic tones- thatched roofs and some of the best collection of contemporary art. They blend seamlessly with the rustic beauty of the place. Incidentally, most of the rooms offer breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea. The open-to-the sky bathrooms give a guest a feeling of being truly close to nature. All the rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with a mini-fridge and a DTH digital TV.
Poovar is a place of unmatched natural beauty. During your stay at Over the Hill, you will be spoilt for choice. You can take leisurely strolls down the pristine stretch of beach at Poovar, explore the fishing hamlet of Poovar to get a taste of life in a typical village of Kerala or pay a visit to the Neyyar Estuary to see the amazing sight of the Neyyar River emptying into the Arabian Sea. However, if you wish to add a dose of adventure to your otherwise serene experience at Poovar, you could either go cycling exploring the surrounding countryside or go boating on the 56 kilometres long Neyyar River that passes through the nearby taluk of Neyyattinkara.
One of the best ways to spend a lazy afternoon at Over the Hill is to lie on a hammock strung between swaying coconut trees. The tranquillity of the place is punctuated by the sound of the chirping of birds and the crashing of the waves in the Arabian Sea. If you want to whip up a heavy appetite, there is the tennis court waiting for you. And as the sun begins to dip in the evening, the place to be in is the swimming pool.
Organic farming practices followed at Over the Hill ensure that the food that comes to your plate is healthy. An assortment of delicacies from Kerala which includes some delectable seafood (the day’s fresh catch) is dished out by the in-house chef. Guests are encouraged to interact with the in-house chef to get acquainted with the finer nuances of the traditional cuisine of Kerala.
Unlike some of the other resorts in Poovar which can be reached only by boat, Over the Hill is accessible by road. Over the Hill is located about 30 kilometres from the Trivandrum International Airport. The nearest railway head is the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station at Thampanoor; about 38 kilometres away.
