Who doesn’t like the fragrance of beautiful flowers? A fully blossomed flower is a sure treat to watch. So imagine a garden full of them? It would definitely be a wonderful sight to watch so many flowers of different species at one place.
The international flower festival is an annual event that takes place in Gangtok, Sikkim. There are around 600 species of orchids, 240 species of trees and ferns, 150 varieties of gladioli, 46 types of rhododendrons and much more. Orchids, gladioli, roses, cacti, alpine plants, creepers, climbers, ferns, herbs etc are the main display items during the show. During the months from March to May, all these species look their best which makes it an ideal time for the festival. The Governor’s Residence at the White Hall plays the host for the event which is happening from May 1st to May 31st this year.
There is also a food fair with the regional delicacies taking the top spot. If you love adventures and wading through waters, then there is river rafting for you. Another interesting feature of the Flower festival in Sikkim is the Yak Safari. Lectures and seminars on indigenous plants are held during the flower show.
Another prominent flower festival is held in Shillong from May 1st to May 7th. Shillong, as we all know is one of the most beautiful places in India. The waterfalls, the hills and all things beautiful naturally gives you a warm welcome to Shillong. The All Saints Hall in the East Khasi Hills of the Shillong district plays host for this event. The local pork dishes are exclusively sought after during this time. All these cities have an individual unique story to tell. The valleys and the hills are so beautiful that the writer inside you will wake up.
