Chandni Chowk – Established in the 17th century by Mughal emperor Shanjahan, Chandni Chowk is Delhi’s oldest market. The market runs through the middle of the walled city of Old Delhi, from the Lahori Darwaza (Lahore Gate) of the Red Fort to Fatehpuri Masjid and retains its historic old world charm to this day. In the lanes of Chandni chowk, one can find literally everything from garments, silver, perfumes (ittar), leather items, food, spices, utensils, shoes, etc. This is a must visit trousseau shopping destination for every delhi bride & groom. Chandni Chowk is also famous for its restaurants, food joints and confectioners, some of which were established back in the 17th century and are now being run by 4th or 5th generation of the same family. This historic market leaves every shopper wanting to come back again and again.
Connaught Place – Connaught Place, officially known as Rajiv Chowk was developed as part of Lutyens Delhi and is the Central Business District of New Delhi. Today, it is one of the most vibrant commercial destinations in the city, housing some of the best retail outlets, branded showrooms, restaurants, theaters, pubs and coffee shops.
Janpath Market – Located adjacent to Connaught Place, Janpath is one of the most famous addresses in Delhi. Janpath starts out from Radial Road 1 in Connaught Place and runs North-South perpendicular to, and past Rajpath. The Janpath market is a heaven for budget travelers and shoppers, buyers of curio, handicrafts and garments, and numerous Indian-style fast-food places. It also houses one of the oldest luxury hotels in Delhi, The Imperial.
Sarojini Nagar and Lajpat Nagar Markets – Located in south Delhi, both Sarojini Nagar and Lajpat Nagar Markets are a heaven for shoppers looking for great deals at affordable prices. Both the markets specialize in garments, accessories, home décor and furniture. Both these markets are visited by huge crowds daily and they are a hit with the college crowd for the amazing street shops selling garments, footwear and accessories.
Dilli Haat - Dilli Haat, literally meaning the shopping place (or haat) of delhi, is a wonderful initiative by Delhi Tourism Corporation to promote the ethnic arts & crafts of India. Dilli Haat, originally located in south Delhi, is an open air crafts bazaar and food court. It has been a hit since it was opened in 1994. It has become a hot venue for crafts, music, dance and cultural festivals, attracting both domestic and international tourists as well as residents of the city. Following its huge success, another Dilli haat was opened in 2008 in north Delhi at Pitampura.
Malls – One of the first cities to embrace the Mall culture, Delhi today has some amazing malls to boast. They make for an interesting shopping experience with the best of brands under one roof and attract huge footfalls all season. The major malls in delhi are Ansal Plaza (at south extension and Vaishali), Select City Walk Saket, DLF Promendae, DLF Emprio and Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj.
