While interning during my summer training for MBA, I got a chance to go for an offsite to Nahan. Situated at the Southern tip of Himachal Pradesh, Nahan is off the touristy trail. At a height of 932 meter above sea level, Nahan is situated in the Shivalik hills. The city is believed to be founded in 1621 by Raja Karan Praksh in 1621. It is believed the city takes it name from Nahar (The Lion) who was an companion of a saint who had once lived there.
Was it Work or was it Play??
Nahan is closer to the plains as compared to the peaks. Nahan is a popular tourist destination due to its scenic beauty and picturesque surroundings. The forest routes filled with lush greenery adds to the calm nature of the place. Nahan is a small town in the centre of lush green mountains nearby. Abundant green woodlands, eminent mountain ranges, absolutely carved river valleys make Nahan a perfect place to holiday for nature and adventure lovers.

I was planning to go Himachal Pradesh from long time, now I finally got a chance to go there with “The Other Home”. The journey started from Kashmiri gate (Delhi) where all of us met. The Distance from New Delhi to Nahan is 272 km and Drive from New Delhi to Nahan takes about 5.44 hours by car. Soon our cars were racing on NH 72 which had inviting Dhabas lined on both sides. After crossing Panipat we stopped at Karnal Oasis to eat breakfast and then our cars stopped only at our campsite Nestling Meadows.

“Nestling Meadows”, situated in Village Panjhal on Jamata- Paonta Road, is a beautiful camping site spread over acres and acres of lush green surroundings.
It was away from city noise and rush, here we were surrounded by lush green forest and enjoyed the rustic luxury of tents. Before we knew the HR head asked us to come for the team building and other trust games it was fun to see the bosses come out of their shells and play and indulge in banter like kids.
After that we went for trekking in jungle, we had been given a task go find our way through the forest to the road, we started searching the way for road but it was not so easy as there are mountains all around wherever we looked. It took us around 1:30 hrs to find the road but it was unforgettable experience. Later the local guys, who live there told us that it was just a 15 mins distance from camp to road for them …..another management lesson learnt.
In the evening we had a strategy session and it was like having a practical management lessons for me. For the first time I realized the power of having the shared vision, empowering the employees, and having a shared common goal. The sessions were so engrossing that before we knew it was way past midnight.
Next morning we went for Renuka Lake (38 km) which is one of the main tourist attractions here. Named after goddess Renuka ji this place has it all. The lake is the largest in Himachal on which the place is named has temples dedicated to goddess Renuka ji and son Parsuram who is also considered the incarnation of lord Vishnu. There is a Wild Life Sanctuary at a short distance with animals like Asiatic Lion, Barking Deer, Leopard it was an amasing sight to see lion cubs and the protective lioness. We took the round around the lake which was around 5 km but it was a beautiful walk and at every step we would encounter different species of animals.
We started for Delhi in the afternoon with a lot of memories with us. My first encounter with the corporate life with a human face. I still can’t decide whether it was work or play or was it the way life really has to be led that way.
