Monsoon Getaways from Maharashtra

The twin hill station of Lonavala and Khandala lying at 622 meters above sea level in the Sahyadri mountain ranges are the perfect getaway in the monsoons. Lonavala and Khandala lie on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and can be easily reached by road.

Karjat

Alibag

Alibag makes for a perfect beach getaway for the monsoons, with its laid back feel, calm beaches and pleasant drizzling showers.  It’s a small coastal town in Raigad district of Maharashtra and lies on the Mumbai-Goa highway. There are a number of beaches in and around Alibag, such as the Alibag beach, Thal beach, Kashid beach, Varsoli beach, Akshi beach and Nagaon beach. All the beaches are relatively flat, secluded and offer a serene experience away from the maddening crowds.

Alibag also has a number of temples located on the hills; the views from these hills are breathtaking during the monsoons. Some of the other sightseeing attractions include Kulaba fort, Kanakeshwar temple, Uma-Maheshwar temple, Magnetic Observatory and Korlai Fort.  Alibag lies around 78 km from Mumbai and can be easily reached by road.

Mahabaleshwar

Nicknamed the ‘land of strawberries’ , this charming hill station in the western ghats is one of the best getaways in the monsoons. It is a popular holiday destination, especially for honeymooners with its evergreen forests and vast plateau surrounded by valleys on all sides. During the rainy season, the landscape turns lush green and offers many scenic spots for the visitors to enjoy. The waterfalls, springs and splendid climate add up to the wow factor of the destination.

Mahabaleshwar lies around 287 km from Mumbai and 120 Km from Pune. It is easily accessible by both Rail and Road.
