Amboli
Lying in the Shahadyri hills of the western ghats, Amboli is an unexplored tiny hill town with lush greenery and laidback feel. It makes for an incredible getaway in the monsoons, when it rains heavily and the air becoming misty, lending an air of romance to the whole of Amboli. Numerous waterfalls come into existence during the rainy season , making for a pretty sight. It is said that there are around 105 Shiva temples in and around Amboli, some of which have been discovered and preserved beautifully. Amboli is around 550 Kms from Mumbai and is well connected by road and the nearest airport is at Belgaum.
Malshej Ghat
Malshej Ghat is actually a mountain past in the western ghats in the Pune district. It’s hilly terrain, lush greenery and interesting wildlife make for a perfect monsoon getaway. Hikers and trekkers find Malshej Ghat to be most charming during the rainy season, with rolling hills, soothing green forests and the chance to spot some rare birds, such as quails, flamingoes, cuckoos, etc. The Shivneri fort, birthplace of Shivaji is also located near to Malshej Ghat, which makes for an interesting sight seeing. Located at around 150 km from Mumbai, Malshej ghat is very popular with nature travelers and families. It is well connected by road from Mumbai and Pune.
Bhandardara
A breathtakingly beautiful resort village in the Ahmednagar district of Maharastra, Bhandardara is the perfect family getaway during monsoons. The exquisite mix of forests, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, fauna and laidback ambience make this destination a blissful experience. This resort village is also famous for being the home of Mount Kalsubai, the highest mountain peak of western ghats in Maharasthra; it makes for an interesting hiking trip. Some of the interesting sightseeing places here at Wilson Dam, Arthur Lake, Ratnagarh Fort, Randha Falls, Umbrella falls (which comes into full force during monsoons), Ghatghar and Amriteshwar temple. Bhandardara is well connected by road to Mumbai (185 km) and Pune (191 Km) while the nearest airport is at Mumbai and it is connected by rail through Igatpuri Railway Station (45 km).
