Naroa Fort is located on Island of Divar. The island is located across the Mandovi and therefore makes it a picturesque locale. The locales make an interesting place for sightseeing where one can enjoy the serene surroundings and exploring religious places such as temples and churches.
Prehistoric connection & Religious place!
The island also known as the prehistoric Dipavatiwas a well-known holy place for the Hindus till the Portuguese took over the island. Many devotees came here every year to offer their prayers, bathe and worship. After Portuguese occupation, the island became home to many of the noble families of Goa.
The island is famous for its three parochial churches and also a chapel that possesses two images of Christ that is held in great regard by the local Catholics.

Saptakoteshwar temple – Divar Island is most famously known for the Saptakoteshwar temple. In 1664 Shivaji ordered to construct this temple. The temple is built typically on the Goan architecture. Only the lamp tower of this temple has a distinct design. The ‘GokulAshtami’ which is a festival of Lord Krishna is celebrated with great pomp over here every year.
Holy Spirit Church of Naroa- This church is situated just opposite to the ruins of the Naroa Fort. It was built in 1710 by the Portuguese & is a fine example of the Indian Baroque style. The outer frontage of the church includes a pristine white fascia and a central dome structure with towers on both sides.
Reaching Naroa Fort
The southern end of the Divar Island is connected with Old Goa by a ferry. You can easily take a ferry to visit the Naroa fort on Divar Island.
