Jim Corbett National Park – India’s First National Park

Corbett national park was established in 1957 and got its name from Jim Corbett, a famous naturalist and photographer. This is one of the first national park established in India. The park is located in the foothills of Himalayas which makes it a major green spot of the country.

Spread over to 520 square kilometres, Jim Corbett has a large variety of flora and fauna. A total of 488 different species of plants and 586 types birds reside in the Jim Corbett National Park. There are over 50 varieties of mammal species and 25 species of reptiles. Corbett national park attracts wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, nature lovers from all over the world. There are plentiful of tigers and leopards in the park which can be spot while the jungle safari.

If lucky, you can also spot herds of elephants present in the park. Spotted deer, sambar, barking deer and chinkara can easily be seen in the park.
Tourist Interest
Though the main focus of the park is to promote conservation, it has few eco tourism activities which would give common people an insight into the jungle. There are number of trained forest guides who can accompany you in your jungle safari. Few things that you can do to make you vacation valuable:

  • Corbett Waterfall : Falling from height of 60 feet, it a perfect location for camping with family. The green backdrop of the falls makes it look all the more beautiful. Wild animals can also be seen in nearby vicinity.

  • Jungle Safari: To explore the mysterious jungle, the Corbett national park offers facilities of ajungle safari. You can look for nature safari if you are a bird lover. One can also explore the jungle by jeep safari where the guide would take you on the trails by jeep. To get deeper into the jungle you can take an elephant safari.
