Elevated 1,360m above sea level is Rewalsar Lake sacred to Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists. Overlooking the lake is the statue of Padmasambhava, a guru who spread Vajrayana Buddhism to Bhutan, Tibet and neighbouring countries in the 8th century. Spend the day by the holy lake and also visit the surrounding temples. Boating facilities are also available.
43. ALONG HINDUSTAN TIBET ROAD

Considered one of the peripheral trade circuits of the legendary Silk Route, the road connecting Kalka and Shimla to the Tibetan Border was used for exchange of goods such as wool, livestock, precious and semiprecious stones between Tibet, Kashmir, Ladakh and Yarkhand. This boulevard is an excellent choice for a long drive amid the mighty mountains.

Located in Bharmaur town and holding immense religious importance is the Chaurasi temple. It derives its name from the 84 shrines built within the periphery of the temple. Dominating the 84 shrines is the beautiful shikhara of Manimahesh temple and a giant statue of Nandi in polished brass stands before the temple. Legends say while passing through this region to Manimahesh, the 84 Siddhas fell in love with the serenity of the place and decided to meditate here.

Chandra Tal

Plan a visit the Norbulingka Institute. Founded in 1988, near Dharamsala the institute is dedicated to preserve Tibetan language and cultural heritage. It contains the Centre for Arts where Tibetan statue making, thangka painting, wood carving etc. are taught, the Academy of Tibetan culture which offers a six year course of higher education in traditional Tibetan studies, the Literary and Cultural Research Centre and the library and publications department.
