Out and About On Mother’s Day

Mothers Day is celebrated in many countries and mean different things in different cultures. In some it happens to be a tribute to mothering. Considering how distant children get from their parents as they grow up, especially in modern times, a mother child holiday is a good way of instilling in the relationship some good memories, that will prove to be bonds in the future.
Children between the ages of 8 and 14 are very impressionable. Their memories of you from these times will have an effect on how they see you for the rest of your lives. Many mothers are taking mother’s day as an opportunity to travel to places both kids and mothers will enjoy and thus enrich their relationships. I have often wondered what kind of holiday this should be.
What is surely not desirable would be a place where both find some activity to do and just keep to themselves. You need something both the kid and the mom will tell their friends about when back, and this should be something they did together.  I took the opportunity to compile a list of things that could fit the bill.
Option 1: Amusement Park

Surely, a ride on a roller coaster or a trip through a themed atmosphere is an experience one and all can enjoy, and together. You would end up with so many pictures of you together with unthinkable faces and poses as you hit that curve on the roller coaster. India, in recent times, has seen the introduction of some beautiful theme parks and amusement parks. Be sure to try out the Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon, Essel World and Water Kingdom in Mumbai and a world class amusement park called Wonder La just 30 Ks from Bangalore. This will easily take up most of your holiday and be in essence an all inclusive experience of fun!

Option 2: Monastery

India has a lot to offer in this regard with various Buddhist monasteries in mainly the northern and north-eastern areas. Nestled among beautiful green mountains and within a few hours driving range from major cities, it’s perfect for a peaceful getaway and experiencing a different atmosphere. It will do a good job of calming the mind and relaxing the body and soul. The scenic beauty of the outlying areas and artistic beauty of the monasteries themselves will leave a lasting impression on both mother and son/daughter. Definitely one to think about.

Option 3: Historical Getaways

India has a lot to offer in terms of historical sites at every corner. There will never be a problem finding a place to spend the day exploring. With such rich history and large forts, palaces, tombs and other such buildings, there is a lot for everyone to enjoy and appreciate.  This trip would surely tick the box, as such that both will tell their friends about this trip.

All the above activities would probably take a day at most and 2 days including travel and stay. A perfect plan for any weekend, not just mother’s day. All though mother’s day is an ideal excuse for these much needed trips, exclusively for mothers and children. Life moves fast after all.
Great home stays and vacation rentals are possible from the other home that one can use to plan the trip. Something like a Homestay is a good alternative to hotels in a trip like this, since it would provide you the homely sort of environment that is needed.
